Children's Privacy

Parents own the account

Only an adult can create a Journae Kids account. Children do not sign up, do not have their own login credentials, and cannot change account settings. Children use profiles inside a parent's account.

Nothing is public

There are no public profiles, feeds, followers, comments, likes, leaderboards, direct messages or discovery features. A child cannot be contacted by a stranger through Journae Kids, because there is no way for strangers to reach them.

Minimal information

• We ask for a first name or nickname only.
• We ask for an age range, not a date of birth.
• We never ask for a school, address, phone number or location.

No advertising, no tracking

Children see no adverts, no sponsored content and no third-party advertising trackers. We do not profile children for marketing.

Parental controls

• Account settings, billing, export and deletion sit behind a parent-only PIN gate.
• Parents can review every moment recorded on any child profile.
• Parents can delete a child profile, or the entire account, at any time.

Positive by design

The Growing Plant never shrinks and never dies. There are no streak punishments, no comparisons with other children and no pressure mechanics. A quiet week is simply a quiet week.

Legal frameworks

We build in line with the UK Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code), UK GDPR and EU GDPR, and the principles of the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA): verifiable parental control of the account, data minimisation and no behavioural advertising.
