Who we are

Journae Kids is a private family app for recording children's progress, memories and achievements. The account holder is always an adult parent or guardian, who acts as the controller of their children's information within the service.

Journae Kids helps families record memories and visual progress. It is not a medical, developmental or educational assessment tool, and nothing in the app is advice, diagnosis or professional assessment.

Journae Kids may store information and photos relating to children, always under the control of their parent or guardian, who can view, export or delete that content at any time.

What we collect

• Parent account details: name, email address and password (stored hashed).
• Child profile details you choose to add: first name, age range, buddy and theme.
• Content you create: Journeys, moments, notes and photos.
• Basic technical data needed to run the service securely, such as log and device data.

We ask for the minimum needed. You never have to give a child's surname, school, date of birth or location.

How we use it

• To provide your private family space and keep your content safe.
• To send essential service emails, such as confirmations and password resets.
• To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix faults.

What we never do

• We never show advertising to children or adults.
• We never sell, rent or share personal data with data brokers.
• We never make children's content public, searchable or shareable outside your family.
• We never use children's content to build advertising profiles.

Legal bases

Where UK and EU data protection law applies, we rely on performance of our contract with you to provide the service, our legitimate interests in keeping it secure, your consent where we ask for it, and legal obligations where they apply.

Storage and security

Data is stored with reputable cloud infrastructure providers, encrypted in transit, and access is restricted to a small number of authorised people. Family content is isolated so only your account can read it.

Photo, video and voice metadata

Photos are re-encoded in your browser before upload, which removes camera metadata such as GPS location. Videos and voice notes are uploaded in their original format, so any metadata the recording device added — which can include location on some phones — may still be present inside the file. That file is only ever visible to your own family account. If you would rather not include it, record inside Journae Kids rather than uploading from your camera roll, or turn location off in your camera app.

Retention

We keep your content while your account is active. When you delete a moment, a child profile or your whole account, the database records and the stored photo, video and audio files are permanently deleted from live systems straight away. Encrypted backups are overwritten on our normal rolling cycle, within 30 days, after which no copy remains. We keep no shadow copies and never restore deleted family content.

Your rights

You can delete an individual child profile from that child's Family & Privacy Centre, or delete your whole account from Parent Space. Both remove the associated journeys, photos, videos, voice notes and memories, including the underlying stored files. You can also access, correct or export your family's data at any time, see Delete your account and data, or email privacy@journaekids.app. You may also complain to your local data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.
